YOU WILL NEED
+ YOUR BUCKET
+ AN OLD SAUCEPAN
+ YOUR MIXING SPOON
+ DYE 50ML

OPTIONAL EXTRA
+ CHALK POWDER
METHOD
Fill an old saucepan with enough water to cover your garment.

Bring the water to a gentle boil

Add Sappanwood natural dye powder.
Leave simmering until the dye has fully dissolved.
Do not leave boiling water unattended and top up water if you notice significant evaporation.
Mix the dye with your wooden spoon.
The dye is now ready for your pre-soaked garment.

Remove your garment from your soaking bucket and ring out to remove extra water(make sure your resists are firm and tighten if necessary).

Place into dye pot on low heat, making sure the whole garment is submerged.

Dye for 40 mins on low temp then remove the pot from the hotplate and leave the garment to sit in the pot for 2 hours.
Once the dyeing process is complete, rinse the garment under cold running water, once the water runs clear remove tie dye binding and rewash.

TIPS & TRICKS

By adding 1 tablespoon of chalk powder (bought from a health food store) you will change the PH of the dye bath making the colour a more purple-pink.

The dye remaining in the pot is reusable while there is still colour in the pot.

This is safe to pour down your sink when complete.
