YOU WILL NEED

+ YOUR BUCKET

+ AN OLD SAUCEPAN

+ YOUR MIXING SPOON

+ DYE 50ML

OPTIONAL EXTRA

+ 10ML WHITE VINEGAR

METHOD

Fill an old saucepan with enough water to cover

your garment.

Bring the water to a gentle boil

Add Turmeric Root natural dye powder.

Leave simmering until the dye has fully dissolved.

Do not leave boiling water unattended and top up water if you notice significant evaporation.

Mix the dye with your wooden spoon.

The dye is now ready for your pre-soaked garment.

------------------------------------------------------------

Remove your bound garment from your soaking bucket and wring it out (making sure your resists are firm) to remove excess water,

Place into dye pot on low heat, making sure the whole garment is submerged.

Dye for 20 mins on low temp then remove the pot from the hotplate and leave the garment in the dye to cool.

Remove from the pot and rinse.

Take off your resist binding, clamps etc and wash well with dishwashing liquid to clean but not fade your dyed garment,.

Dry in the shade and enjoy your new yellow naturally dyed garment!

TIPS & TRICKS

+ Add a good splash (or 10ml) of white vinegar to your dye pot to give longevity to the dye.  This dye will fade over time like all good things however the joy is you have the option to redye with the same or another colour giving you a whole new piece.

The dye remaining in the pot is reusable while there is still colour in the pot.

This is safe to pour down your sink when complete.
